About This Course
This course is designed for non-technical learners and offers a broad overview of artificial intelligence: its core principles, real-world applications, and societal impacts. By the end, you will understand how AI technologies shape the world around you and how to make informed decisions about when and how to use these tools responsibly.
Where This Course Stands
Conversations about AI are not simple. Many people, including many artists and creators, have real concerns about how these tools are built and used: how training data is gathered, whose work goes uncredited, the environmental cost, and the effect on artists and creative livelihoods.
This course is not here to sell you on AI or push you to use it. Choosing not to use these tools is a legitimate position. The aim is to help you think about AI clearly and critically: to understand how it works and where it falls short, and to weigh its costs and benefits for yourself. If you do decide to use AI, the course offers ways to do so more thoughtfully and ethically. This course does not force you to use any AI tools.

How You Earn the Badge
Each module ends with a short quiz, and you need a perfect score to move on to the next module. After all four modules, you earn an AI Literacy badge. If you are taking this course to meet a requirement for another class, an e-mail is sent to you when you finish, which you can forward to your instructor.
